Marie Thio & Raymond Angelo Gonzaga
The Fight and Plight of the Rainbow Soldiers Mixed Media Over recent years there has been mounting support for the civil rights of the LGBT community. One event would be the annual Pink Dot happening which also sees heterosexual people attending. Yet, many people still feel torn between religious beliefs and everyday friendships. As acceptance for the LGBT community grows, so too does the awareness of their difference. There exists a different set of rules for the community that others find unable to acceptable. The rainbow soldiers in “Fight and Plight of the Rainbow Soldiers” represent the LGBT community and the green ones represent the “opposition”. The are locked in the call to take sides. The artwork raises questions about the right to judge others and about the need for acceptance even when there is a lack of understanding. |

Marie THIO is a second-year student at SMU's School of Social Sciences. She has tried out many art forms, but hasn't quite had the opportunity to artistically mangle that many toy soldiers. When it comes to art, she prefers spontaneity to planning. In her words, that's where all the fun comes from – and that explains why art is just so addictive!
Marie worked with Ian Wong, Amanda Tan Jia Qi, Alyson Yeo Tin Wei, Melanie Lim and Judith Chen on The Fight and Plight of the Rainbow Soldiers. This is her first exhibition.
Raymond Angelo is a third-year student at SMU's Lee Kong Chian School of Business. Through his work (and his life), he hopes to inspire people to live life to the fullest, and to pursue their dreams, whatever they may be. When he grows up (whenever that may be), Raymond wishes to enter the Advertising Industry and to write a book about love.
