Michelle Lai & Lai Yumin
Scent Project Mixed Media Archiving the oral histories of individuals, Scent Project attempts to capture the memories of these individuals, through sensory elements - specifically that of sight, sound, and smell. A series of visits to the Henderson Senior Citizens' Home over the summer allowed the artists to accumulate numerous oral recordings of the memories of the elderly. The archival works of six individuals from the Home will be displayed, with the intention of sharing these memories with the public. This project is done in conjunction with International Food and Fragrance, and is a contributor to the Singapore Memory Project. |

A final year student in the School of Social Sciences, Michelle LAI is currently in Lima, Peru, for exchange. From her last attempt at tipi, an installation done during VOIIICE, she attempts to deviate from social commentary by working on a highly personal and relatable theme - that of memories. It is her first time working on a project with her sister - and thus a very meaningful experience for her.
A recent Food Science graduate, LAI Yumin shares the same passion for food, cooking, flavors and fragrances with her sister. She has worked in the kitchens of Jamie Oliver, and continues to seek to understand scents and ingredients in her upcoming stint at a food laboratory where she continues her research in the area. This is her first time participating in a VOICE exhibition.
